This will be one of the Victorian Registrar's puzzles. Previous
enquiries seem to have come to a dead end.

A relative of a person born there says it is "Pine Lodge", west of
Bamawm. It isn't shown on Google Maps, but it appears in the
RACV/VicRoads "Country Street Directory" on Map 30, Ref H5.

It is the same one, Kate. Bamawm is 66 Km west of Bendigo. Pine Grove
is a bit south-west of Bamawm. Family Tree Maker had co-ordinates for
Pine Grove. I believe that they use Bing Maps.

The question is: when the Index says "Pine", which one do they mean?
The easiest approach seems to be Susie Zada's method: look at the next
numbered entry. That one will most likely have been lodged by the same
Registrar as yours.

Do you not have a name for this person? Could you match B's/D's for those in
Pine Lodge and Pine Grove, which record 12 and 11 names on Pioneer.
Place names shown in full for records at both places. Pine Lodge Cemetery
(Shepparton) has online deceased search.

I got that info from a person in the vicinity who is a distant relative
of the mother-in-law of one of my daughters. It is the place west of
Bendigo, near Lockington. I had seen messages from other people saying
they had been unable to find "Pine." This deceased individual seems to
be the only person recorded there.

I don't have the CDs. I am not a professional, and can't justify the
expense. They are set up at our library, but the staff discourage us
from using them, telling us that Ancestry.com has the same info. The
best matching technique would be Susie Zada's, of looking at adjacent
entries.

The list of abbreviations in the current phone book has both Pine Lodge
and Pine Grove, with different abbreviations. It is a pity that the Vic
Govt did not create one for District Registrars.

Just putting the single word, Pine, into Pioneer, gives 10 deaths at Pine
Grove and one at Pine Lodge. All between 1883-1888

Not sure if this is a learning curve or I am losing my wits.
Checking consecutive Reg numbers, I got 14293 Pine Grove. Then 14295-6-7
Pine Lodge.
Simple, I only had to put in 14294 and I would have it, OR NOT. I did get a
response for Pine Grove, but just putting in Reg Number alone, up came
masses of names with the same Reg number. Went to Victorian BDM's and the
same thing happened. So, how does that work?
