Hi all,

I am tying to help a friend located a church (denomination unknown) that might have been situated at 400 Stony Point Road, Crib Point, Victoria.

A Heritage paper states:
"The Anglican church, Christ Church, Crib Point opened in 1929, but closed in 1963. The church building fell into disuse and some of the land owned by the Anglican diocese at Crib Point was sold off."

I have also been advised that there used to be a church in Stony Point Road almost opposite Governors Rd but it has been gone for some years now.

Does anyone know about this church?

I know there is one near the corner of Disney St and Stony Point Rd but that is not the one I am looking for.

Hoping to jog some memories.

Cheers,
Di

Google Maps says that if you travel north from Disney Street on the
east side of Stony Point Road, you cross over Creswell Street, the
corner property is No. 394, and No. 400 is a bit to the north of
that. Google Maps has given me the following short URL:
https://goo.gl/maps/zXyveDxcdFu
The building there could be a church, but one recently built, and
there is no sign out the front.

Thanks for that Doug. I have been able to work out that that is not the church I am looking for because it is too new. I have also been offered other information another church but not sure that is even the one I was looking for.

I have passed on all the information I have to my friend.

Hi Doug,

We have since found out that the number was 'thought' to be 400, could have been 380. Doug, I did have a ? in my subject line. That church at 400 is a Uniting Church and i not as old as the one I was chasing for my friend.

Thanks so much for your input.

Cheers,
Di

I wonder if this may help. My wife told me she remembers she used to
take our son to the infant welfare centre that was almost opposite
Campbell St. (just down from Governors Rd). It is no longer there, but
she told me she had been told that the IWC used to be a church. It seems
to me that this may be the one you mean.

Hello John,

Thanks to you and your wife for this info.
The IWC is now a lot of units and I too used to take my children there.

I have been able to get a photo of the church through the facebook page of Crib Point Then and Now. There is so much information our there on this little church it's amazing.

Cheers,
Di
