Hello Group
Is there anyone who has researched William Goulding & his wife Ann Elliott,
they had 5 children, on the births Ann Elliott is listed as Gordon she may
have had a previous relationship, it would be great if I could find someone
who is a descendant of these children or help me with my research please.
Children of WILLIAM GOULDING and ANN ELLIOTT are:
i. NATHANIEL JOHN2 GOULDING, b. 01 Mar 1830,
Parramatta; d. 1918.
2. ii. WILLLIAM GOULDING, b. 11 May 1830, Kissing Point
NSW; d. 1901, Annadale rg 4374.
3. iii. EUGENE GOULDING, b. 20 Jan 1833, Kissing Point NSW;
d. 1892, St. Leonards rg 12317.
iv. SARAH MARCELLA GOULDING, b. 02 Sep 1834, Field of
Mars NSW; d. 1900.
4. v. HENRY JAMES GOULDING, b. 11 Mar 1837, Field of Mars
NSW; d. 02 Aug 1894, 1894 William/Ann at Ryde.
. William Goulding was often spelt William Golding in early
settlement records.
William must have met Ann Gordon sometime about 1830. She was a free person,
and a widow although there is no record of a marriage during this time until
her death on 1st June 1837 they had 5 children.
On 22 August 1837, William Goulding wrote a letter to the Governor
requesting that 3 of his 5 children who were entirely dependant of him for
support, be admitted to the Male Orphan School, as he had no other means of
earning a livelihood but by daily labouring as a sawyer in the bush. Thus it
was out of his power to pay a person to mind them during his absence from
home.
The children were listed as: William Goulding born 5 November 1830, John
Goulding born 3 January 1832. (baptised as Nathaniel John) and Eugene
Goulding born 20 January 1833. The signature on his letter is identical to
the one on the declaration to the Newcastle Commandant.
During the time until William's death on 3rd January 1841, he must have
visited the boys , as William Goulding and Ann Gordon were listed as their
parents on their death notices. Also they remained in contact with their
younger sister Sarah Marcella Goulding born 9 February 1834. She and her
husband George Wicks were witnesses at the marriage of her brother Willam to
Emma Squires on 16 January 1855.
Cheers Rhonda
