I'm trying to locate where this cemetery is/was.

Tarraville, once a thriving township in Gippsland, has an interesting
history. It seems to have developed in 2 portions - Reeves' Special
Survey, and a gazetted township developed just to the south of that.

It has a long history, dating back to the 1840s. It seems there was a
cemetery, altho the only reference I can find is the appointment of
trustees in 1859.

I've hunted the parish maps, books like Janette Rogers 'Lonely Graves',
and old copies of the Gippsland Standard newspaper, but can find no
physical location information.

Can anyone cast any light, please?

Just a thought.

Have you checked with the Rector of Christ Church, Tarraville. It is
classified as the oldest church in Gippsland and also classified "A" by
the National Trust.
Maybe the National Trust can help you also?

I've spoken with a couple of historically-able folk from the area. At
first I thought the cemetery might have been at the church itself, but
that was fairly rare in Victoria.

I'll follow along your ideas...

Thanks.

Hi

The GSV might be able to help. There is a transcription of the
Tarraville Cemetery Register at the GSV Library in Melbourne.

Feedback time...

After many emails and phone conversations, not to mention reading some
published material, I can find no hard evidence that Tarraville cemetery
existed.

Alberton is close by and figured in events in a similar timescale.
Perhaps there was some confusion with names?

Thanks to everyone who provided comment. Just for the record, there are
at least 2 books worth a read - the author was Linda Barraclough, and
joint authors J(anette) Rogers and Nelly Helyar for the other. More
detail if anyone wants.

I now know a lot more about Gippsland!

Cheers
