Dear Neil,
Dahl Funeral Services appears to have originally been owned by members of the
DAHL Family and thus, most probably, by their descendants
In 1943 a Mr E.O. DAHL of Mt Gambier was a member of the Rotary Club of Mt
Gambier. Rotary members were very often businessmen.
According to:
http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/page/7756740? ........... in 1943 a
Mr E.O. DAHL, a member of the Rotary Club, gave a talk about the various fine
timbers ..... Qn: Would you expect an Undertaker / Coffin maker have expert
knowledge of fine timbers ????
In 1943 according to the Mt Gambier newspaper "The Border Watch" a Mr Ern.
James was the Funeral Director operating out of E.O. DAHL's shop and residence
with phone number 281.

This suggests that the original owner's name persists for the undertaker's
business BUT the person running the business no longer has that surname.
Perhaps that Mr Ern. James married one of the DAHL girls???
As another example, in Adelaide proper, the Elliott boys have been undertakers
/ funeral directors since 1850 through successive generations for almost 167
years. The men of the family continued the business and passed the name on. A
long time friend of mine, Tony Elliott, is the current Managing Director of
this business as was his father before him.
I would suggest that there were probably no members of the DAHL family who were
interested in carrying on the business in Mt Gambier.
I would even speculate that some member of that family may have married into
the Warhurst family who were also undertakers, but located in Mannum, S.A.
Hence you might find the older undertaker business now resurrected as :

Co-incidental ????? ..... Could Lola Warhust be a DAHL descendant???? .....
Worth an e-mail????
"The Border Watch newspaper is still published in Mt Gambier !

If you look in the Ryerson Index you find:.................
DAHL Phyllis Joan Death notice 04NOV2006 Death 83 at Mount Gambier Hospital,
late of Mount Gambier Mt Gambier Border Watch 07NOV2006
Here is a possible source for other records: ......................
Mt Gambier may be serviced by outsiders, but there are only TWO Funeral
Directors who are physically based in Mt Gambier:

Perhaps someone connected with these might help you.
