Hello List

Can anyone tell me please how to contact ancestry to correct entries in
family trees they have my gr gr grandfather William Brownlow married in UK
before he was sent as a 18 year old convict to NSW in 1820, then they have
him heading for US, in fact he never left after he as free and married
Selena Eacott at Narellan they moved to Crooked Corner near Binda NSW where
he died as an was buried on his farm. I have his will and other family
documents to support my research.

I am sure others have had similar experiences with Ancestry's errors so I
would be good if I could correct or remove the errors.

Hi Rhonda,

Surely these are Ancestry errors but errors by people who created the
tree(s) in question?

In that case you should contact the owner of the tree - definitely not
Ancestry's problem but inferior research by the tree's owner.

Regards ... Susie Z

Hi Rhonda
They ARE NOT Ancestrys trees . Ancestry didnt do any of the research ,be it real or what a lot of it is " copy & paste genealogy" or folk who just collect names & dates. Never been able to work out why anyone would do that.

you could try contacting the person who put the info up on line. But often they don't respond .

Bye

There are some beauties out there, Rhonda. One tree has my ancestor
Thomas Boykett living in two States of the USA as somebody spelling
their surname differently. He never set foot there. I did a quick
search of the LDS records and came up with the correct family.

Another tree had a series of magazine articles about the composer
William Wallace (a different person from Braveheart.) At the time I was
working on a connection with a descendant of Ferdinand Meurant's
marriage to Sophia. Wallace came into that indirectly. He spent some
time in Australia, and a concert of his music was performed here at
about the same time.

According to the tree, Wallace married the researcher's daughter. The
only problem was, that the tree itself said that the daughter was only
one year old when Wallace died in France.

There is much copying and pasting. All available trees may agree, and
still be completely wrong. Shakespeare was right: "What does it
matter? His name's the same."

But as others have said, it is up to the tree owners, not Ancestry to
fix things up. The trees will have a "contact" link. To many of them,
your relative is fairly peripheral. If they are still active, they
can't be bothered fixing the entry. One researcher who has been in the
game about as long as I have, shows my brother as an uncle. I have
asked him at least twice to fix it, but the error is still there.

Watch the new LDS FamilySearch records. That is a collection of trees
just like yours and mine and these defective ones. They are not tested
for accuracy. Always at least check and confirm what others have put up.

Doug.
