Search google for ... sligo newspapers archives ... to see what might be available online. Also make sure you search NLA online resources - there are various Irish newspapers accessible using your free NLA online resources card.

Do you have his convict indent and have court date and details? The paper I needed some years ago wasn't online or digitised but on microfilm in the British Library - negotiated a microfilm copy and found several references from the arrest through to the court appearance etc - definitely worthwhile.

BEWARE if using an OCR version - I think there were half a dozen different versions of spelling of surnames and first name - wouldn't have found ANYTHING with a text search!

Hi Rhonda,

My suggestion would be that you do anything and everything to find more
information on an ancestor - and of course target the free ones first but
carefully check subscription ones in case they have exactly the records
you're after.

And don't forget that some of the major subscription ones are free at your
local library - check that out first!

I have applied for membership to NAL but I'm wonder if I joined rootsweb
Sligo.com if that's an option
Cheers

(watch the break)

a Roger Wood says that Matthew was his wife's GGF. He is replying to a
post about a different person.
