There is actually a Comment box beside each person's entry in Ancestry trees. That is where you could put the correct information about your ancestor if the treeholder won't change their entry. I've done that numerous times but tactfully such as:

Contrary to this information my research about my gt grandfather reveals blah blah blah.... His shipping record/death certif (whatever) verifies this.

This also shows you are directly related to the person and you have quoted a source for your comments.

I have found many errors that have been part of Ancestry's Transcription
of documents which if there is an index you can most times correct.
Peoples trees are another matter, some of them you will find will
correct any error that there is, if you contact them, others will ignore
you and think they are correct but the important thing is _you_ must
have proof of your facts, eg Certificates to prove that you have the
correct person, and other documents, you don't have to share them with
the people who have wrong info, just state the information that you have
in your tree. as the source.
